Bass Enhance Testing

Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; AOL 4.0; Windows 98):

I thought I'd jump back into the discussion on BE. In a thread a while back I was investigating the effects and advantages to BE and what equipment might work best for my system and speakers. It took a while but I found a pair of REL Strata II's (sorry Phillip) to mate with my Aerial SR3's. (Fronts are Aerial 10T's, CC3 for center with Aerial 5's for the rear. Proceed Amp 2's and Amp 3, Lex DC1DTSV3, Muse Model 18 sub for .1 channel). I chose the Strata's for their flexible hookup, size(12Dx20Hx16W), great sound, and because I like the way they interface with the satellite speakers. The SR3's are great sounding dipole/bipole speakers that go down to 50 Hz on their own. I used BE for awhile without subs, which gave me a good taste for the improvements possible with full range sides. The REL's are hooked up via the amplifier taps. This is very convenient because I can just drop the cable inside the wall down from the side speakers to the sub. Nice and neat. The side speakers are hooked up to speaker cable run inside the wall, so I can tap into those posts for the REL hookup. This means that the Aerial and the sub get a full range signal, then you just adjust the sub's crossover to blend the speakers. Works great. Once adjusted the subs and the SR3's blend beautifully. Use a test disc like S'phile #2 and run the tests just as Phillip as suggested in a previous post.
Here are the settings on the DC1:
Front Small C/O 40 Hz
Center Small Split 120 Hz
Sides Large Standard
Rears Small C/O 80 Hz
Subwoofer Yes C/O 80 Hz
The results have been exhilirating. The sense of space and feeling of ambience is greatly heightened. The bass presence is stronger without overpowering. More importantly, it creates a more enveloping experience. The V3 upgrade with the BE feature is well worth the tariff. The location of the .1 sub(the muse 18) was a bit too easily localizable before I added the side subs. Now, after a handful of movies and many tests later, this problem seems to have resolved itself, I suppose as a result of the BE software. I am still not completely happy with the placement of the Muse 18 for aesthetic reasons, so maybe a pair of REL Storm 3's up front with a y tap sub out? Hmmm.
Hope this helps anyone on the fence about BE. It has been well worth the trouble and expense for me. Questions or suggestions are welcome.

Bruce
