DC-2 vs MC-1
Posted by Philip Brandes [IP: 24.4.254.49] on September 25, 1999 at 23:35:57 In Reply to: DC-2 vs MC-1 posted by Andy Lewis on September 25, 1999 at 23:14:42: Hi Andy, The MC-1 has better S/n and dynamic range specs, better build quality, digital out (though it will only route a digital input, not convert an analog to digital), better video quality, and built-in direct-to-DAC inputs for future formats. Lexicon's plan is to also offer direct-to-DAC inputs for the DC-2 via a rear-panel upgrade, but that is not available yet and there is no information on pricing. Since it's a fairly involved hardware change, it won't be as cheap as a software upgrade. If you're betting on the new formats, you might seriously consider the MC-1. "Refined" Logic 7 simply means the algorithm has been improved, but it's the same algorithm in the MC-1, DC-2, and V3 DC-1. The sonic differences will be in the architecture, provided the rest of your system is revealing enough. Keep in mind the major discriminant is Lexicon's software, and sonic improvements the MC-1 offers over the DC-2 are incremental--so it's important to match your choice to the rest of your system. Hope this helps,
