There are probably a gazillion other technical issues that would need to be resolved to implement any of these ideas. But, that is why high tech companies hire really smart people.

Far be it for me to figure out how to make upgrading easier. There is no way I can know all the technology that makes an MC-1 do what it does.

I have application software on my PC that connects with the vendor via the internet, then downloads and installs updates.

My point was that IF Lexicon could work through the technical and security issues, easier upgrades might give them a competitive advantage:

1. Owners could upgrade more often and have the most up to date features.

2. Total upgrade cost might be lower for both the customer and Lexicon. Distributing only the software might be less expensive than building and shipping new EEPROMs. It is certainly less expensive for the owner.

Since I am pushing the envelope here, how about adding an RJ11 phone jack to the MC-1. It calls Lexicon periodically to request updates which are downloaded via the phone line.
