You are correct on the DISH. Mine operates exactly the same way.

While I am interested in the V4 software (not particularily the EX bit), I simply dread the thought of the two hour routine if I do it myself or the two week routine if I send it to the dealer for the upgrade. And it seems these upgrades happen about twice a year!

I would be excited about one last "old fashioned EEPROM update" that included the necessary software/hardware to allow upgrades through the serial port on the MC1 for example.
