VR2090 vs. TXDS656 vs. AVR65 Posted by SMR [WizOp] [IP: 195.232.2.144] on October 27, 1998 at 12:42:35: In Reply to: VR2090 vs. TXDS656 vs. AVR65 posted by Harry on October 26, 1998 at 23:43:16: Harry, The 6-channel inputs are definitely important, we're likely to see DVD-Audio in one form or another early next year, a format you may want. It would therefore be unfortunate if the receiver you have only owned for a few months is not able to handle the format. DTS in my opinion is less important, the format is only available on a limited amount of software and unless they release on DVD around Christmas time in the US will probably die. DTS have had two rounds of consumer division job losses lately - and there weren't many staff to begin with. Anyway… if you get 6-channel inputs you can add a DTS decoder sometime in the future if you wish. Personally, I prefer the Harman/Kardon. The amplifier ratings given are very conservative and H/K amps have a high-current output, capable of driving practically anything. They're also the most musical A/V amps with a refined and powerful delivery. You may wish to check out the calibration procedure though, on the AVR-75 I reviewed it was a real pain in the neck, each mode had to be calibrated separately. However, once that was done it produced excellent results.
