Is pro-logic licensed like DD and DTS

Posted by Bob R [IP: 156.153.255.210] on October 27, 1998 at 15:32:34:

Does the output from pro-logic have to be decoded the same on different brands of receivers? I heard from a sales rep that Denon receivers produce information from pro-logic that other pro-logic receivers do not.

I read in an early post that for DTS and DD (AC3) different receivers use different processing to decode these signals. But, the end result has to be the same to be licensed and claim to be DD or DTS. Is this the same for pro-logic?

The (Denon) sales rep inferred that I would hear things in pro-logic on a Denon AVR-2700 that I would not hear in pro-logic on a Sony DA50ES.

Since the majority of the time I watch VHS rental cassettes and Dish Network movies I will be using pro-logic alot.

Anyone know?

Thanks

Bob
