You make a very good argument in favor of MLP. However, I think DTS still has a very good chance at finding a nich in the form of DVD movies.
While it is technically feasable for MLP to be used as a soundtrack format for DVD films, it is not very likely. MLP would simply take up too much space on the DVD. There would be little room left over for the video information.
MLP will become the future standard for music, no doubt about it. However, there is room for DTS on DVD movies (pun intended). It will never challenge Dolby but it can be profitable as long as people continue to claim its superiority to DD.

: There's no doubting that 5.1 music done well is pretty impressive, the Eagles 'Hell Freezes Over' is another excellent DTS disc.

: However… when DVD audio is introduced it will also deliver 5.1 audio, using loss-less compression and 96kHz 24-bit rather than a lossy compression scheme like DTS. There is also the issue of licensing. DTS have very few artists signed up for 5.1 audio. Their DVD-Audio competition on the other hand have artists coming out of their ears. Dolby, who co-license MPL have been signing labels up for years ahead of the new format and of course Sony already have a huge catalogue at their disposal.

: Unfortunately DTS doesn't work that way. It's likely that all those people who get DTS equipment this Christmas will be just as disappointed as those last year who were promised software… in January at the CES. Then sometime in February. Then in March, September, November…. Fingers crossed on behalf of DTS fans for the holiday season!
