2-channel stereo vs Dolby

Excuse newbie's inexperience.
I just bought a Sony DVP-S7000 DVD player. I also have an HK3400 stereo (only) receiver and a pair of KLH speakers.
My usage will be this: 60% - CD listening (using the DVD player), 30% - Concert DVD listening, 10% - DVD rental movie watching.
Should I get a Dolby Digital/Pro Logic receiver to replace the HK?
Will it improve the CD sound as opposed to analog 2-channel stereo?
Will I have to flip the audio switches every time I want to listen to a DVD and then to a CD?
