Processor/DVD Incompatibility

I own a Yamaha DVD S700 and a Technics SH 500D DD/DTS decoder. I was experiencing problems when playing back DTS encoded audio discs (a chirping noise). After much testing and conferring with technical types at both Yamaha and Technics, I now come to learn that the two are incompatible. The tech from Technics said he has heard that the Technics decoder is not functioning with Harmon Kardon, Yamaha, and at least one other brand of DVD player. Has anyone else heard of such a problem? I'd be interested to know.
