VR2090 vs. TXDS656 vs. AVR65 Posted by Johnny [IP: 152.163.201.179] on October 29, 1998 at 14:52:47: In Reply to: VR2090 vs. TXDS656 vs. AVR65 posted by SMR [WizOp] on October 28, 1998 at 15:12:32: Okay, I agree about DTS. Promises, promises... But why, at this late date, would companies like H/K, Kenwood, and SONY of all companies add these decoders if they didn't believe that there would be software available for it. As a consumer, I wish there were a ton of DTS DVDs. There's got to be a reason, DTS is a major player now and they're not stupid. I have a sneaking suspicion that they know something that we don't. : : However, there is room for DTS on DVD movies (pun intended). It will never challenge Dolby but it can be profitable as long as people continue to claim its superiority to DD. : Good points. You're probably right, DTS may be able to survive if people think they're getting something better (even if their ears or equipment doesn't confirm that). If DTS discs actually offer better sound and video - because of mastering not format-related - that would help too. : The problem may ultimately be lack of software. DTS have had a long time to get discs to market especially as there have been compatible players since January and I doubt that'll change. They're also handling licensing themselves so the catalogue will always be limited. : We shall see… :
