AVOID VR-2080/90 at all costs!

Posted by Fred [IP: 152.163.201.179] on October 29, 1998 at 15:01:26:

I have recently been to Circuit City. They have had (sit down) FOUR 2080s go to the shop in the last month. The story is as follows:

They got one on display on the 'wall' with the other receivers. Strangely, it stops working one day. Unit turns on, everything seems to work, but NO SOUND!

They place another unit in the 'cinema room' with a nice big screen and PolkAudio surround + DVD. Within a week, the unit STOPS PLAYING SOUND!

This is the incredible part- BOTH replacements ALSO FAIL! Don't blame user error- they have 20-30 other units, and they say rarely if EVER do they ever fail on the wall.

Here's my overall point- for the $800-1000 that these units cost, you can get yerself an AVR 45/65, a TXDS555/656, various Yamaha, Denons, Sony ES, etc! The repair record of these just plain STINKS!

STAY AWAY!
