If you get a receiver with digital inputs, the decoders in it should be able to figure out automatically what kind of data stream is coming from the DVD. If you play an audio CD, you get a 16-bit PCM stream and it is decoded that way. AC-3 and DTS do the same. The key point is you have to use the digital output of the DVD instead of the analog output. : Excuse newbie's inexperience. : I just bought a Sony DVP-S7000 DVD player. I also have an HK3400 stereo (only) receiver and a pair of KLH speakers. : My usage will be this: 60% - CD listening (using the DVD player), 30% - Concert DVD listening, 10% - DVD rental movie watching. : Should I get a Dolby Digital/Pro Logic receiver to replace the HK? : Will it improve the CD sound as opposed to analog 2-channel stereo? : Will I have to flip the audio switches every time I want to listen to a DVD and then to a CD? : Thanks in advance for any e-mailed advice. : mysykot@aol.com
