According to that site, the HDCD system is 100% compatible with existing hardware. I quote "HDCD encoded music will sound dramatically better on all existing systems, from portable walkabouts to home theatre, from minisystems to minidisc."

This is how I see it: Music CD's with HDCD sound better on every CD player, but sound a LOT better on HDCD CD players.

: HDCD (High Definition Compatible Digital) is viable and supported, but is mostly made obsolete with the coming of DVD-Audio. I have no direct experience with HDCD, but I have heard it gives a subtle, but noticeable difference.

: As far as I know, there are no receivers that support it, but I know of a few DACs that do, e.g.: Musical Fidelity X-DAC, Audio Alchemy DDE1.2... Take a look at the HDCD site for more info.

: : Greetings,
: : I was wondering about HDCD encoding/decoding -- is this format viable? Is it being supported? Anyone know if any A/V Receivers decode HDCD? Haven't heard much about it, other than to notice that I have some HDCD encoded CDs and wonder how they'd sound through a system that was decoding it. Anyone?
