: anyone else have any problems w/ their avd-2000 decoder?-...... : after about 1.5 hours of play in dolby digital, it gets really, really hot- & i get a intermittant "popping" sound from my center & front left speakers. i have talked w/ Denon, & have sent it in for repair.- : just wandering if anyone else has had this same issue. ?I considered purchasing this device but decided against it. Got the Technics SH-AC500D instead. Regarding the heat and popping noises with the Denon, see the previous posts on this forum. I have cut and pasted one of them below. Does it have the same processor and D/A converters as the top end Denon receivers? I kind of think not because the spec sheet says 18 bit converters for center, sub and rear and 20 bit converters for mains. There is no mention of it's bass management. I am attracted to it because it has analog bypass inputs that pass through its volume control and it is reasonably priced. An alternative is the Sony EP9-ES except it costs more and it does not have the analog bypass. Any comments are appreciated. : I purchased mine from one of the auctions spots on the web for $219 (NEW not refurbished). Reason I was interested in the Denon was because of the RF demodulator. I also use the analog bypass as I feed a DTS converted signal from the Millennuim 5.1 DTS Processor to my Pre-Amp. Denon must be on for analog bypass to work. One minor problem with Denon is that after about an hour or so the Dolby decoding would start to pop due to excessive heat build up; I added a $15 CPU cooling fan to the inside of the unit and that solved the problem. As an alternative I suggest buying the Technics SH5000 Dolby Digital and DTS decoder for $249 or $259 from www.earthstations.com and if you also need an RF demodulator for your Laser Disc to feed the SH5000 (maybe wrong on exact name), purchase the Kenwood demodulator from Crutchfield for $149. I have both setups and cannot tell any difference in the dynamics of the conversion from the Denon + the the Millennium (retails for $1200 combined) and the Technics and the Kenwood (retails for $475). : thanks : aj
