A 3dB increase is what's achieved by doubling the loudspeaker output (doubling the loudspeakers). Of course Brad is correct, a perceived increase is somewhere in the region of 10dB. The 0.1dB figure still stands, we can perceive differences that small. For example, if we were to conduct a valid ABX test between components they'd have to be equalised in volume to that degree. I should be able to find some more links regarding our hearing acuity and the way in which sound is measured if you give me a day or two - they're on my other PC.
