: I think Yamaha actually wants people to use two centre loudspeakers, many of their amplifiers and receivers I've had of late have had that provision. In the home its actually a really bad idea to connect to centre 'speakers, one is back to hearing a "phantom" image and all listeners/viewers outside of that sweet spot get untold comb filtering effects.

Thanks, Stuart. Yes, Yamaha may well be encouraging people to use a couple of centre speakers, and I agree with your approach entirely. But the main advantage, IMHO, of having the provision to use two centre speakers is not to actually have two centre speakers, but to be able to bi-wire one good centre speaker. Is this not what a lot of people use the A/B speaker outputs for? To bi-wire their mains? My apologies, I'm straying off the topic here!
