: : The photograph at the foot of this message is the rear panel of the DSP-A1, here are the most important specs:

: I notice from the photograph of the rear panel that this amp does not have provision for bi-wiring the centre channel speaker! I thought that this was a feature that Yamaha pursued vigourously?

: Is anybody able to tell me whether the new RX-V795 has this ability? I believe the 793 did, and again express my disappointment at the new 795's inferior power supply, amongst seemingly increasing other deficiencies, when compared to the 793. How much are the added bonuses of in-built DTS and a 6 channel input going to cost the 795 in terms of other features?

You are so far from the truth, you could not be more wrong !!!
The 795 has a bigger power supply than the 793. In addition, Yamaha has never had a provision to bi-amp a center channel. Where did you come up with such ridiculous information?
Yamaha has always had the ability to connect 2 center channels in parallel. I see no benefit to this as it will only tax the amp more than needed. As far as impedance selector switches go, they are a scam. The only raeson why Yamaha puts one there is for marketing and safety compliance. It basically limits the voltage rails to the power amps and dissipates power to a resistor. Anyone who uses this switch, regardless of the impedance of their speakers is limiting their amp dynamics and power.
