I'm interested in doing the same thing. My Onkyo 747 receiver was only $800. I'm thinking of adding the ATI 150 watt per channel amp. Would you really hear a difference compared to ,say, the Acurus $1800 preamp? I hope some audiophiles will enlighten us.
