receiver preamp/speaker outputs

Two questions regarding my DD receiver: (1) There are preouts for external amplification of the center and surround channels only, not for the mains. Is it worth the money to add more power to these channels when I can't increase the front left and right? I currently get 120 watts across the front and only 60 to the surrounds. (2) Said receiver also has outputs for a set of "B" speakers. I wanted to add a second pair of speakers to augment the front left and right during movie playback, but the manual clearly states that during any surround playback, the B speakers will be automatically shut off. Is this because the B speakers are meant to be for a second room? Regardless, is there any way around this? Thanks for any help. P.S. If anyone has attempted to e-mail me from past postings, they keep changing it on me here (three times so far!!) This is my correct (and hopefully permanent) address.
