I have a secondary receiver (Yamaha RX-V393) for my pc sound. This lets me get some boom and surround effects on quake, and I can listen to music when I'm working at home. My sound card is built in to the motherboard, but is compatible with a sb16. The line out is the size of a small headphone jack. I purchased a headphone to rca cord from radio shack which works fine. Make sure you get the right cord. On my first attempt at this, I mistakenly got a headphone to phono cord, which played the sound, but gave an annoying feedback noise. (As well as playing the left channel louder than the right.)
I've got it going into the video in, but the input shouldn't make a difference. What type of line out does your sound card have? Cheap ones have a small headphone jack like mine, while better cards will have an mono or stereo rca out like a normal component.

: Is there any way of connecting a line out of a sound card (in my case an AWE 32) to my home theater system without getting that constant, annoying low feedback noise? I have tried connecting it to an Aux, a VCR in, a CD in, messed with the volume settings on the cards, the input levels on the receiver, all to no avail.

: I am trying to connect it to a Denon AVR-5600. Any help would be appreciated.

: I have good PC speakers, I am merely experimenting...
