As is often said by Audiophiles: Garbage in is Garbage out. Not implying that your receiver is garbage, just that the source is most important. If the amplifiers in your 747 (or the Yamaha 795) are easily capable of driving your speakers, you might have greater improvements changing your pre-amp. If your speakers are demanding of power, maybe a more powerful power amp is a better idea. Try and find out. Listening is the only way.

Do not only try the ATI, but the Rotel RB985 as well! It is a great amp for not much money.

: I'm interested in doing the same thing. My Onkyo 747 receiver was only $800. I'm thinking of adding the ATI 150 watt per channel amp. Would you really hear a difference compared to ,say, the Acurus $1800 preamp? I hope some audiophiles will enlighten us.
