Yamaha DSP-A1?! Why not B&K AVR202!!! Posted by Christopher Taplin [IP: 153.37.9.133] on November 08, 1998 at 19:30:43: In Reply to: Yamaha DSP-A1?! Why not B&K AVR202!!! posted by Michael S. Gilmore on November 08, 1998 at 16:04:15: : I see so much talk on this board about the Yamaha DSP-A1. I've only been looking/listening for a good reciever for a week but from what I've listened to, seen and read I can't believe there isn't more talk about the B&K AVR202. : It's price is comparable to the Yamaha DSP-A1, and other than the 40+ DSP modes you'll never use, and they have an almost identical set of conectivity features. : So what's the deal? (brain stopped! ran out of thoughts =P ) : Opinions? : Mike I've listened to both and they both sound great. BUT, the DSP-A1 has a much higher PLAY FACTOR. See my previous post some weeks ago about the Play Factor. STRIKE ONE. From what I've read and heard, the AVR202 is a great receiver and it sounds great to. But there are numerous posts about problems with some of the first production units, no one has reported problems with the DSP-A1. STRIKE 2 Also, the 202 does not have an RF Demodulator built in, so add that and its price is well over the Yammy. STRIKE 3. Sure the upgradability thing is desirable, but if its anything like Lexicon's you may as well buy a new unit, because the cost would be the same... Anyways, 3 STRIKES and it was out for me. You may play a different ball game... Enjoy the sights and sounds. Chris PS: Haven't gotten mine yet so all this may change. But I doubt it, EVERYONE that owns one loves it... We'll see...
