Technics SA-AX6/SHAC500D vs. Onkyo TX-DS656

I'm torn. I KNOW Onkyo is better stuff. I can clearly hear the difference when I compare it to Sony (non-ES), Kenwood (HA!) and others. However, everything I own is Panasonic, and if possible, it would look nice to have all Technics as well.

What am I losing by going the Technics way? Can anyone give me a blow-by-blow comparison of the two? Can you REALLY hear a difference?

P.S. If I get the 656 with say a PAN DVD-A310 (has DTS) do I STILL need a DTS decoder or is that built-in to the DVD?
