Parasound P/DD1550 and more (long) Posted by Tony on September 30, 1998 at 10:33:24: In Reply to: Parasound P/DD1550 and more (long) posted by Jon on September 30, 1998 at 10:13:54: I would recommend that you consider the Toshiba DVD. It can do both Dolby Digital and DTS. I believe it also has a onboard decoder. However, my question for you is how has the PSP 1500 worked out for you? I am returning my second unit and about to give up on the piece. : Parasound P/SP1500 pre/processor : Lately I feel a little better about renting DVDs, esp. since I see you can rent them at the local Blockbuster, and I want to add a DVD player (and) processor. Obviously the choice processor (unless I buy a DVD player with an on-board processor) for me is the Parasound PDD1550. : So here are my questions: : 1. The PDD1550 (supposedly) can decode Dolby Digital and DTS. Does the source component that I choose as a DVD player need DD and DTS capability? In my mind (which may be utopian), digital is digital and the PDD should figure out whatever I throw at it. : 2. Does anyone out there have experience with the PDD1550?? Any advice, prices I should aim for, mail order places?, regrets, successes????? : 3. I am tempted to buy a mid-price-range Sony DVD player. It is my understanding that DVDs are currently "only" single sided, double-wafer, and in the future they will be double sided. Is this true? Will double sided players emerge in a few years? In my mind (again, utopian), I don't want to go overboard on the player because I expect to upgrade then. What is the mid-range ($500-$1000) player of choice? : 4. What is the story on DB25 interconnects? any recommendations? prices? : Thanks in advance. : Jon Maddux
