Buy & Replace vs. Buy & Upgrade Posted by Mr Bentwrench [IP: 206.133.22.24] on December 30, 1998 at 12:28:01: With rapidly changing technologies and falling prices I'm very tempted to just buy a JVC 664 for $200 to mate with a 26" stereo TV. BTW, I need a Hi-Fi VRC too. This can all be "recycled" to a den or bedroom later. I wanted to completely replace my 25 yr old stereo with something that would last me another 20 yrs or so but $10,000 is hard to come by when you're divorced. I will design and build my new speakers next and will then go to DVD but I'm honestly 2-3yrs away. Accordingly, do I really need AC-3 compatability in a receiver when I can't afford the Yamaha/HK/Onkyo that offers the specs and features that I can't even use yet and may become superceded. I realize this question is rather broad but I would appreciate anyone's experience with the concept of using a "disposable" receiver that at least gets me in the game... now?
