Pro-Logic playback on AC-3 processor

Posted by Rusihan Amri Rusli [IP: 161.142.201.3] on December 31, 1998 at 19:31:23:

I'm planning to set up a home cinema system based on my existing Hi-Fi setup, and therefore getting a Dolby Digital (AC-3) processor would be an ideal match for the DVD player.
My question is that, is the AC-3 standard backward compatible with Dolby Pro-Logic; in other words would the AC-3 processor be able to accept analogue Dolby Surround encoded materials from my Hi-Fi stereo VHS VCR or do I simply need to get a separate Dolby Pro-Logic processor as well?

Thanks
