Ok, the Sherwood R945 ($1299) and the Yamaha RXV 995 ($1000) are both excellent receivers. Let me break down the differences:

Yamaha RXV 995:
100 watts X 5 at full bandwidth
Usable DSP modes (Yamaha makes the best DSP in the industry of receivers)
6 channel inputs
Can be had for only $799

Sherwood Newcastle R945:
100 watts X 5 at 1KHz (translates to about 15-20% less at fullbandwidth.
No 6 channel inputs
Terrible DSP modes
Can be had for only $799

Given the fact you can get either of these units for $799 and you seem to be interested in the most flexible, best audio and dsp performer, I would pick the Yamaha RXV 995 hands down.

The Sherwood is last years model and will be getting phased out shortly. At its retail price, it is not worth it.
