One power amp comes to mind when multi-channel and low cost comes to mind. J&R Music World is closing out the Harmon Kardon PA5800 5 channel power amp for $400. I bought one and it is far, far more robust than it's humble 80w x 5 rating would have you to believe - also it is rated for 4 ohm use and is built shockingly well for the money. As example each channel has it's own power supply all the way back to the toroidal transformer where each channel has it's own secondary windings. So help me if I had a use for a second one - I would order one! It is a smooth sounding amp.

If you can live with Dolby Pro Logic, there is a matching DPL preamp/tuner on closeout for $200 - that makes a total of $600 for a setup that blows away most receivers out there.
