Active Subwoofer help

Posted by Ross [IP: 193.38.113.29] on November 30, 1998 at 09:28:14:

Hi all I need someone to help
I need someone who know about active subs.
THe problem is I have a home made sub and
a old amp high power amp i found hooked up to
my Yamaha home cinema amp. The sub comes out of the sub out on the amp and into the old amp which then goes to the sub. The problem is when i turn up the Yamaha`s volume up goes the sub, It then hits a point where the old amp starts distorting but if i use a less powerfull a old 40w yamaha it can go all the way to 40w without sounding crap but then the Cinema amp keeps going all the way to 120W per channel. so the bass from the sub gets lost. WHy cant the old amp keep going like the old yamaha amp, is there anyway to stop this no I don`t use the old yamaha cause it`s too
Oh an last thing is if i don`t turn the Cinema amp up to loud I can turn the sub amp very loud like shack the house loud why

Many Thanks
