I too own the 50ES. I've had it for about a month and have had it running for as much as 3 - 4 hours for surround sound from TV, but also for DVD and CDs. I've never had any overheating problems.

Note that I'm running small speakers for the front/center/rear. I'm running the Energy Take 5 package. Since they're small speakers and the 50ES is set to small speakers, it is undoubtedly less of a drain on the amp, hence, less heat. You might try setting your speakers to small, just to see if this makes a difference, though it wouldn't be a good long-term solution.
