I don't want to sound rude, but they are identical. I've seen each of them up close and they are the same. The only differences are the gold lettering and black feet on the R-V series. The RX-V series has silver feet and white lettering. I encountered both series when shopping, as I said, and they are the same. Many Specialty dealers want you to believe they are different because they want your sale and money. I don't buy from dealers who tell me this. I don't consider them knowledgable in what they sell. I'll be honest, I thought I was having problems but it was another defective component. I talked to the Yamaha engineering department on this. They did tests on the RX-V793 to see if they could simulate the problem. I have the R-V1103 and was told by the engineer, the two are exactly the same, but sold in different markets. The cosmetic differences are to distinguish the two series apart. This is a pretty common fact known on the other forums I visit. The R-V series is rated at 1 Khz for power. The RX-V series is rated at 20 - 20 Khz for power. The power is the same on both units, just measured and rated at different frequencies. A good rule of thumb is that the 1 Khz output will be roughly 20 - 25% of the 20 -20 Khz rating plus the 20 - 20 Khz rating. The 20 -20 Khz rating is equivalent to 20% of the 1 Khz rating. Check out this site: www.yamaha.com/yec/customer/faqs/faq00.htm . This site should give you the confidence they are the same, if you ever decide on a R-V series component. Take it easy.
