I own the Rotel RSP980 (without DD/DTS, but with separate RDA980 DD-decoder) and think it's amazingly capable, also with music (very smooth, musical and detailed). I compared it with the AVR-5600 (AVC-A1 in the Netherlands) and found this amp to be worse than the Rotel (in stereo). So I reckon the RSP985 offers extremely much value for money, especially if you value music highly.

Go and have a listen to the unit. Also a good match with the new RB985MkII.

I have an additional question for anyone reading this: does the THX mode on the RSP985 only work in Prologic, or also in DD or DTS modes?
