Ground loop hum- Simple fixes didn't work

Posted by Michael Yeh [IP: 24.131.12.100] on March 30, 1999 at 08:03:31
Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.0; Windows 98):

My system has a receiver hooked up to a two-channel amp, which is then hooked up to the speakers. When I try to hook up the television or the VCR (which is connected to the television) to the receiver via S-cable or RCA cables, I get some humming. This is despite (1) unhooking the cable coax from the wall and (2) running the TV, VCR, receiver, and amp through the same Panamax 500 (a fire hazard-in-waiting).

1) Any thoughts on how to fix this without using a cheater plug?

2) Would running balanced interconnects from a pre-amp situated between the receiver and the amplifier fix this problem?

Thanks for your help!
