impedance selector

Using Mozilla/4.5 [en] (Win95; U):

I got my sony 50ES about a month ago. Now it has this 4/8 ohm impedance selector switch on its back. The sign on my speakers backside reads as follows: 180/300W, 4-8 ohm, 92 dB. Now I don't know if I should set the switch to 4 or 8 and if I will get improved sound!?
