Sony TA-E9000ES S/W Version?

Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows NT):

I recently purchased a TA-E9000ES and was told that it was a new unit that does not have the documented lip sync problem. I need to find out if there is a way to display the currently installed s/w version of the unit. I called Sony and they said there is no way but I find that hard to believe. Does anyone know a way to display the version? I tried turing the +/- knob counter-clockwise and it wasn't there.
