Yamaha RX-V995 - TV & VCR Hookups

Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows 95):

I have my VCR connected per the general instructions, which is audio and video out from the VCR to the receiver, then back to the VCR. Then from the monitor out on the receiver to the TV.

The only problem with this kind of setup is that I can only listen to the TV channel that passes through the VCR tuner. In other words, I cannot listen to a TV program without the VCR being on. Is there a way to pass audio control back to the TV, or am I stuck with this particular setup? Thanks.
