I connected line outputs from my TV back to the 995 TV/DBS inputs (the line outputs are not controlled by the TV's volume control). This allows me to listen to any source using the 995 as volume control. I prefer the MTS decoder on my VCR, though, and of course you can't see the receiver menus when using the TV, so I find I usually run through the VCR anyway.

If you don't have audio outputs on your TV you could be stuck.
