DD with yamaha 995

DTS has always been lacking in bass compared to Dolby Digital and 2 channel stereo Digital PCM. Others have also noticed this. The DTS DVD, Eagles - Hell Freezes Over, is the biggest example. A disappointment, but it is the Eagles. The PCM track is the same used on the NORMAL, non-DTS, 2 channel stereo PCM CD. It has much better bass output and dynamics. So much better that the DTS version is unbearable to listen to with it's bass lacking sound. The Dolby Digital versions of other band's concerts always have much better bass output than the PCM versions, because of DD's bass in all 5 channels. The extra bass in the rear and the LFE add quite a bit, if not to much in my opinion. The DTS's bass was absent. I had to even turn up the DTS's LFE level to max. , which is +10 db on my Yamaha 995. I would suggest you check out your Dolby Digital "LFE level". It should be at "0 db". This could be leading to the shyness in the bass area you refer to.
