In theory, upgrades are obtained through your dealer. If you have a problem with your dealer (I've had serious support problems with my dealer on the AVP and my Crestron system) Proceed can be convinced to send you the updates directly. So far the upgrades have been in the form of a floppy disk containing loader software to send the software upgrade to the AVP over the PC's serial port.

The AVP supports installing updates through the serial port or from a CD (through a digital port). The update procedure could theoretically be done over the web, but Proceed hasn't done that yet.

As to comparing Proceed's new surround modes to Logic-7, note that I said "roughly equivalent to." I haven't even heard for sure that they will be adding any specific new modes, I'm just speculating. However, why else would they enable side channels? Like you said, the Proceed guys aren't stupid...

As to the Casanova having the best upgrade approach yet, I assume you mean at that price point. The Proceed PDSD, Meridian 861, and Theta Casablanca all have better upgrade paths, as they have room for more options than the Casanova. Obviously, they cost more too.
