Meridian 561 vs lexicon MC1 vs Proceed AVP(svid)

Apparently, so does Theta; they list that capability as an upcoming 'feature' for Casa Nova. The Meridian 861 and Theta Casablanca have exactly the same 'approach' to upgradability as Casa Nova, even if they have more room for expansion. Yes, more room is good, but the price of Casa Nova is a huge plus, and they do exactly the same thing (yank out a card, pop in a new one). The downside to the Proceed DSD is that it requires a PAV or similar AV preamp for preamp functions (analog and video switching) and it has processors built into the card cage. Casablanca, Casa Nova, and (AFAIK) 861 do not. The last part is a relatively minor downside, but the first one, IMO, is a doozy (not that PAV isn't a good preamp, it's just... expensive). It's also good to know that Proceed will work with you if you need them to. There are companies that simply will not work directly with their customers, and others who seem to be happy to work with their customers. One thing that the dealer I spoke to didn't like about Proceed is that Citation is now part of their group, and he REALLY got screwed in regard to the Citation 7.0 and 7.1 deal. Since Citation was promising to provide a DD/DTS/Format-X upgrade path for the Citation 7.0 AND the Fosgate family of processors, he told that to a lot of customers... only to discover it wasn't going to happen. Now, I realize that Citation's actions do not reflect on Proceed's, but I think he is not being so magnanimous about it because Citation lost him some customers. Personally, I think I will be quite happy with my Casa Nova, when it gets here. Waiting is a bummer :) -Rakesh
