The limitation in the Casanova is that due to a shortage of space, some upgrades may not be possible. An example is component video switching. There just won't be space to add this to the Casanova. I agree however, that the cost is a huge plus.

As to companies being willing to work with their customers, I just don't get why some are so against it. The customers are the people who keep these companies in business. I had a devil of a time getting Crestron to talk to me, as support is supposed to go through the dealer. Any time I had a question, the dealer told me to call Crestron who told me to call the dealer... It took a pretty nasty email to the head of support at Crestron to get their attention. They've been fine ever since and the quality of the support is excellent. The dealer is Natural Sound in Framingham, MA by the way. I'll never buy from Natural Sound again unless there's no alternative.

If your dealer doens't like Proceed because Citation is now part of their group, then I feel he's being unrealistic. Does he like Lexicon? They're part of the same parent company too. What about Mark Levinson, Revel, etc. All of these companies are run as separate companies. They just happen to be owned by the same group. AFAIK, the individual companies have pretty much nothing to do with each other.
