Sorry about the delay in my response. I actually did buy an RX-V995 and try to use the pre-outs and the external decoder input as an equalizer loop. I had been encouraged by my salesman, also, and as you suggested, this did not work. The pre-outs are shut off when the external decoder inputs are enabled, and, of course, the external decoder inputs are disabled in all other modes. Before I actually tried the loop hookup I had considered that there was a volume control in both the pre-out and external decoder input circuits, and expected a very steep gain in the knob response.

Your comment about my potentially limited financial resources is very appropriate, so I will continue to monitor the marketplace for a better compromise between this functionality and the $.

Knowing that I am an outlier in the market research data, I don't expect a value oriented receiver with these features in the near, or distant future. I have considered finding a nice DD receiver, and then wiring in my own EQ loop just before the main amps. It is not unlike me to attempt this type of somewhat ill-advised adventure. Any suggestions or words of wisdom?

My true ambition with this posting was to solicit responses with leads on other receivers with this capability that I was unaware of, and to touch base with someone else who actually understood what I was attempting to do. I am encouraged that I found both. Thanks to Peter and Ergin.

Bruce
