In my opinion, if you'll attempt to set up an equalizer for use with a Yamaha RX-V995, probably the best you can do is to get a five-channel equalizer, connect the five-channel pre-outs of the Yamaha to the equalizer, then get a five-channel power amplifier and connect the outputs of the equalizer to that.

The only additional expense in this is, naturally, the extra power amp. But there are some excellent deals around. One of the best that everyone has been raving about (in terms of value for money) is the five-channel Harmon Kardon PA5800 that J&R has been selling for $400 for a long time. (I think its MSRP is $1000...) You can find it at the link below.

If you are looking for some other kind of magic to be able to use the RX-V995 with an equalizer, I wouldn't have the first idea what else you can do. I'm not that much "equalizer-literate" anyway. I haven't felt any need to use an equalizer in the last ten years or so, with the proliferation of better and cheaper speakers and, as Peter mentioned, the "flat response curve" that CDs made so commonplace.

So I'm afraid I don't have much more input on the topic of equalizers than what I've already provided in this thread. Good luck in your quest! :-)
