Meridian 561 vs lexicon MC1 vs Proceed AVP(svid)

But that's just a guess. There are two problems with that statement, though; what if a format emerges for which the AVP has not the processing power? Adding memory won't help, you'll need faster DSP's. I would guess, however, that the AVP won't be horsepower-shy for some time. Casa Nova gets around this by offering both hardware and software upgrade capabilities. Hopefully, the software updates won't be expensive (they say that software updates will be avilable via CD or Internet). On the other hand, it's not clear as to how Theta will pull off some of the things that they promised as future Casa Nova, options either; one prominent example is component video I/O. The back panel doesn't appear to be big enough. You're right about dealers, though. The thing that I don't like is that every dealer in this area, thus far without exception, blasts stuff that they don't carry. So, the guy with Marantz products says that NAD and Adcom are lame, and the NAD dealer says that Marantz and Yamaha sound terrible, and the Adcom guy says NAD has pitiful build quality, and so on. It seems to me that companies like Theta, Lexicon, Proceed, and Meridian, being focussed on a rather small segment of the market, HAVE to be good to their customers in order to stay in business, especially since they seem to rely primarily on word-of-mouth to gain more business. So I'm always skeptical when a dealer says 'Oh, Proceed doesn't care about its customers but Theta is wonderful.' I'm more inclined to believe the user testimonials I have heard here, regarding both the high-end products as well as the more mass-market stuff (like Marantz, Adcom, etc). I figure customers are usually the harshest critics :) When the local Proceed dealer gets his Proceed stack set back up, I'll see if I can take a listen to that surround mode, as well as take some time to decide about the B&W Nautilus speakers. -Rakesh
