Meridian 561 vs lexicon MC1 vs Proceed AVP(svid)

As for software computing power, the AVP uses Motorola's latest 56303 DSP chips vs. the older 56009 chips used in most decoders. There is no format yet even discussed that will outpace these. So at least in the next five years or so, software speed and capacity looks like no problem. On other topics: I think it's worth assuming that Theta, Meridian, and the Madrigal companies are all pretty responsive to their consumers -- it would be awful hard for them to stay in business otherwise, and all seem to be around for the long run. I've heard that Proceed will add more surround modes in upcoming software upgrades; we'll see. If MLP becomes prevalent or some other DSD a la Philips/Sony, I'd think that alternate surround modes would become less important as surround sound would already be mixed in. We'll see. The bottom line is that there are more questions than answers with all this stuff. The consumer is at the bottom of the food chain for the decisionmakers.
