Yamaha 995 subwoofer connection

Using Mozilla/4.5 [en] (Win98; I):

I don't get any bass when i connect my subwoofer to the subwoofer connection in the back of my yamaha, but when I connect it to the center bass plug, I get bass. Why is this?
