
Difference between DTS/DD/Dolby Surround/Prologic

DPL = Dolby ProLogic (Surround) = Two discrete channels multiplexed in your decoder (receiver etc.) into center and rear channels (both rear channels have the same output) basic surround feeling.DD = AC-3 = Dolby Digital = Five discrete channels - 3 fronts, 2 rears and discrete sub-woofer high compression ratio utilized to put all channel on media. DTS = Digital Theater Surround = Similar to DD but lower compression ratio, thus supposed to sound better. Today, DD is the minimal recommended entry point when purchasing HT and DTS is very common too. DPL is supported by all DD/DTS decoders.
