Difference between DTS/DD/Dolby Surround/Prologic

Wouldn't you know it, DTS even screwed that up much to Motorola's annoyance. The original 56009 engine was fine running supplied DTS code, provided the bitstream was 44.1kHz, but at 48kHz the Motorola had to run beyond specification, risking overheating and soft failure over time. This is yet another reason why older processors had to be updated before the appearance of DTS on DVD (which has to be 48kHz, unlike on LD and music disc where it's 44.1kHz), and why manufacturers such as Meridian and Lexicon re-wrote the DTS supplied code and loaded it into their own engines via an outboard ROM.
