Classe SSP-25

Its a fantastic pre/pro as long as you think about what you're looking for. I compared it with proceed, lex, theta, and the ssp50. The 2 classe pieces in my opinion had the best stereo reproduction. I was looking for outstanding music first with a clean 5.1 DD and DTS. One thing you should be aware of is that although the ssp25 is upgradable with software updates, it is nowhere near as futureproof as the offerings from lexicon and theta. With that said, you also have to think about the fact that at some point an upgrade with those units could cost in excess of 1k if swapping the motherboard is in order. One huge factor in my choosing the ssp25 is that my hifi store has a full value trade in policy, so I am futureproof already- hard to put a dollar sign on that one- so I make my decisions on getting the best sound today from my dollar- its because of this policy that I didn't end up getting the procced and was able to afford the 201 amp. I figure let the powers that be decide if its sacd or dvda, if we use firewire, whether 24/96 will be premier for more than one year, and if ddex becomes a more accepted surround sound format (if so- just change the 6th channel to discreet sooner rather than later.) When that dust settles much of todays offerings will be old hat- not to mention where DtoA converters will be a year or 2 from now. Anyway, my point is really figure out what you hope to accomplish with your pre/pro and then listen to a bunch of the high end offerings (I still to this day have never tried out the EAD or meridian offerings.) the best part is you really learn a lot about the different manufacturers and this hobby in general- and you wont believe the diffeence in sound you'll hear between any one of the above pre/pro's. Enjoy
