Rob,

As you can see by the many posts here, a lot of people have had a lot of trouble with Sony prooducts.

Receivers that expire right after the warranty does, LD players that do not eject the disc (I have one of those myself), CD players that require new optics so early in life(I had that happen with a high-end Sony ES CD player I own).. the list goes on and on.

Then add to that the generally ho-hum performace of the regular Sony audio line and a gradual downfall of the classic of all Sony product - Trinitrons. Each time I buy a new Sony set, and Sony is the only brand I have bought since my college days 20ish years ago, the new one is a lesser product than the one it replaced. 10 years ago I bought the best 20" set Sony had to offer and it serves me well to this day, but the 27" set I replaced it with is junk - pure and simple. I am sure you are seeing a trend here... and Sony can't seem to get going in the right direction and do it right. They know how - they just don't.

FWIW I have a system consisting of mostly older, top or high-end ES pieces. Some were "statement" pieces and others were simply good units at the time. These components are actually quite good, well built and solid performers. This goes back to my statement earlier... Sony knows how - they just don't.

Alan
